GE Lunar Prodigy Pro: DXA testing

Prodigy Pro is a GE HealthCare DXA system. The brochure distinguishes Primo, Pro and Advance software packages; Pro includes Essential Body Composition Assessment. Fat and lean-tissue outputs require the corresponding scan and software, so the device alone does not establish local service availability.

DXA and bone-density locations

Distinguish bone densitometry from body-composition analysis before booking. Check the scan type and report offered by the specific location.

What GE Lunar Prodigy Pro measures

Manufacturer specifications describe the model. They do not confirm the report a provider supplies or public service availability.

How it measures

DXA (also called DEXA) uses X-rays at two energies. Bone densitometry using this method measures bone density, usually in the spine and hip. Body-composition assessment requires a whole-body analysis separating fat and lean soft tissue and bone mineral. A bone-density test alone does not establish that this service is available. Pregnancy is a contraindication to DXA body-composition testing.

Benefits

  • Compare the documented model specifications before choosing a provider.

What the device does not tell you

  • Check whether the provider offers body-composition analysis or only bone-density testing. These are different services.

Compare devices

For tracking change, ask about using the same device and procedure and having the results explained. For clinical examination, confirm referral and booking requirements with the provider. Differences between methods are not automatically changes in your body.
