InBody 120
InBody120 is useful for following fat and muscle while changing your diet or activity. A meaningful consultation benefits from the full computer-generated report; the small display shows only part of the results.
When this test is useful
The InBody 120 fits where a tall analyser would take up too much space. It has a low weighing platform and hand electrodes held in front of your body during testing. For an adviser working at several locations, easy transport and battery operation are practical benefits. Portability does not remove the need for correct posture and preparation. Before booking, ask which report you will receive. The screen, a short printed slip and a full LookinBody report are different outputs. If you want to track individual limbs or review your history, arrange a detailed report.
What the results tell you
Weight is accompanied by estimated skeletal muscle and fat. Read body fat percentage alongside fat in kilograms: a percentage change also depends on total weight. A consistent trend at later visits is more useful than a single score.
LookinBody can show segmental lean mass and fat. Lean mass includes water, so it is not the weight of pure muscle. If the two sides differ, first check positioning and repeatability before drawing a training conclusion.
The detailed report lists total body water. The catalogue does not list ICW/ECW separation or ECW/TBW. Total water alone therefore does not explain fluid distribution and is not interchangeable with the water analysis of higher models.
The manufacturer’s report lists visceral fat level. This is an estimated rating, not an area in cm² or an abdominal image. When moving to another model, check that you are comparing the same kind of value.
BMR and weight-control suggestions are calculations based on the result. They are not oxygen-consumption measurements or a ready-made diet. Discuss suggested muscle and fat changes with your adviser in the context of your goal and usual activity.
How the device measures
Contacts on the platform and handpiece measure the electrical impedance of five body regions at two frequencies. The device uses these values to estimate body composition; it does not weigh fat or muscle separately. Correct handpiece positioning matters just as much as bare-foot contact.
Test procedure and preparation
Test at a similar time of day, with your usual fluid intake and a similar interval after meals. Avoid exercise beforehand, use the restroom and stand quietly for a while. The location should check handpiece position and bare-foot contact. BIA is not performed with an active implant such as a pacemaker; discuss other relevant medical circumstances beforehand.
Limitations and influences
Hydration, meals, exercise and posture affect the result. Moving the device does not remove the need to let testing conditions settle. The manufacturer’s output list does not document phase angle or ECW/TBW. Choose another model if these are your goals. A full report requires suitable software and location settings. The screen may not include everything you want to track.
Choosing a device and service
The 120 is practical for transport and basic body composition. The 270S adds whole-body phase angle; the 380 adds whole-body ECW/TBW and different controls. Choose according to the question you want the test to answer and the report available, rather than test speed alone.

Frequently asked questions
Does 120 show every value on its display?
No. The detailed segmental report requires appropriate software. Check its availability when booking.
Does 120 provide ECW/TBW?
The verified manufacturer list documents total water rather than ECW/TBW or phase angle. Choose another model for those outputs.
